Herriman, Utah (August 9, 2023) - RSL Academy is currently well represented at the U-15 Concacaf Championship in the Dominican Republic, where the USYNT have advanced past the group stage, finishing undefeated with three-consecutive victories. Goalkeeper Will Mackay, defender Gio Villa, midfielder Luca Moisa, and forward Omar Marquez all earned a call-up for the tournament and have played significant minutes thus far.Â
Qatar, Cuba, and Haiti rounded out Group B, with only Qatar able to penetrate the United States defense, as the Stars and Stripes finished the Group Stage unbeaten, scoring 16 goals while only conceding twice.
The first match against Qatar proved to be the most difficult test for the United States. Mackay and Villa started and played the full 70 minute match, with Marquez appearing in the second half after a lengthy weather delay. The match would end 3-2 propelling the Americans to the top of the table.
Moisa and Marquez both got the nod in the second match against Cuba and handsomely rewarded their coach’s faith. In the 11-0 route, both Marquez and Moisa recorded a brace. Marquez also provided one assist, while Moisa notched two, bringing their total goal contribution to seven in the eleven-goal game.
After providing two goals and two assists against Cuba, Moisa started in the final match of the group stage along with Villa. The United States would earn yet another shutout winning the match 3-0 with Moisa again providing an assist.
With the group stage wrapped up, the United States advances to the Quarterfinals on August 10. The opponent is yet to be determined but the RSL Academy players will look to continue their hot start and make a deep run in the tournament.
