The Real Salt Lake U-15s and U-17s took part in the 2019 Generation adidas Cup qualifying tournament held in Carson, California over President's Day weekend. The U-17s qualified for the Champions Division as the first wildcard after playing to successful matches in Herriman, Utah last October and now Carson.
The U-17s finished third overall in Group A having earned a 4-1-1 record and a +5-goal differential. The team trailed only Seattle and LA Galaxy at the top of Group A.
The U-17s claimed a 1-0 victory over the Portland Timbers U-17s on Friday as Bode Davis’ goal was enough to secure the victory for RSL. On Saturday, RSL locked up its place in the Championship Division after a thrilling 4-1 penalty shootout victory over Colorado Rapids U-17 side.
For the younger RSL contingent who could not qualify for the Championship Division, the U-15s fell to LA Galaxy 3-0 on Friday followed by a narrow 3-2 shootout loss to Colorado on Saturday. The U-15s closed out the weekend by facing Seattle Sounders U-15s, falling 2-0.
The U-17s will now prepare for the Champions Division that will take place from April 12-20 at Toyota Soccer Center in Frisco, Texas with the Semifinals and Final held inside Toyota Stadium.
