HERRIMAN, Utah (Friday, January 7, 2022) – RSL Academy midfielder Carlos Castrejon, forward Zavier Gozo and forward Max Lora have been named to the United States U15 Men’s National Team for a January Training Camp at the Elite Athlete Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.
“It’s an honor to be chosen to represent one’s country and this call up is the pay off for the daily hard work our players give to this Club,” Director of Coaching Arnold Rijsenburg said.
This is the first call-up for all three athletes to a team within the U.S. Soccer Youth National Team system. However, Castrejon was previously named to a training camp for Mexico’s U15 National Team. As a duel citizen, Castrejon can represent both countries until he reaches the senior level of competition.
The trio joined the RSL Academy prior to the start of this season in August of 2021, under Head Coach Andrew May, who led last year’s group to the U15 MLS NEXT Cup Championship. Since then Gozo has become the team’s leading goal scorer, netting nine goals, including three during the MLS NEXT Fest. Meanwhile, Lora has added four goals of his own, while Castrejon has scored twice.
RSL’s three players are the most from a single club on the Training Camp’s roster, tied with Inter Miami CF.
The U15s are currently ranked third in the MLS NEXT West Division for league play and first in the MLS NEXT Northwest Division for Inter League play.
The RSL Academy will return to to MLS NEXT play for the first time in the calendar year on February 19 at San Jose Earthquakes in Livermore, Calif.
