HERRIMAN, Utah (Friday, October 19, 2018) – Real Monarchs SLC opens the 2018 United Soccer League Playoffs on Saturday, October 20 at 3:00 p.m. MT against Western Conference rival Reno 1868 FC. Interim Head Coach Jamison Olave leads his side into its second consecutive post-season appearance as the club seeks its first ever post-season victory.

Saturday’s match will see the Monarchs host a USL Cup Playoff match for the second consecutive season after securing the fourth seed in the USL’s Western Conference in the final match of the 2018 regular season. The Monarchs toppled Fresno FC 1-0 courtesy of a thunderous strike from MF Charlie Adams in the 37th minute and a shutout performance from GK Andrew Putna to help secure at least one home playoff match.
1868 FC and the Monarchs have faced off on two occasions this season with each team walking away with one win apiece, each coming at its home venue. In early-July Reno claimed a dominant 3-0 victory over the Monarchs at Greater Nevada Field before the Utah club earned a hard-fought 2-1 win over Reno in the return leg in Herriman one month later. Adams and MF Maikel Chang both notched goals in the victory at Zions Bank Stadium to move the all-time series between the clubs to 4-1-0 in favor of the Monarchs.
The winner of Saturday’s match will move on to play in the Western Conference Semifinals against either number one seed Orange County SC, or eighth seeded Saint Louis FC.
