Dominik Marczuk
In Real Salt Lake’s return leg at America First Field Wednesday, hosting Costa Rican champions CS Herediano in the CONCACAF Champions Cup first round - RSL’s first appearance in the continental tourney in nearly a decade - there is no question who took hold of the match by the scruff of its neck.
Apparent to all, Polish winger Dominik Marczuk controlled the right side of the pitch during the entirety of his 70-minute shift Wednesday evening, providing danger, guile, gusto and more for the RSL attack.

From the first whistle for an ambitious RSL side, Marczuk created various chances for the home side, receiving the ball on the wing in the fourth minute. Attacking vertically, Marczuk froze his defender with an outside touch, buying time to slip a beautiful ball across the box, past the outstretched legs of a sliding defender, into the six-yard box finding striker Forster Ajago, who put the chance just wide right of the post.
Combining with Captain Emeka Eneli in the final third, Marczuk received the ball at the top of the box, taking a touch to the right and leading his defender to the sideline, then switching to his left foot, buying space and time before firing a low shot towards the near post, sending the first chance of his own just wide minutes later.
Marczuk’s key moment of the match came in the 26th minute. Building out from the back in a series composed of two long balls, Marczuk received a ball from Portuguese DP playmaker Diogo Gonçalves in space on the right wing. Taking two touches, one to control and the second to slot a pass between the defenders striding legs, Marczuk once again connected with Ajago near the spot, the Ghanaian firing first-time to the bottom right corner, opening his Club account and giving RSL the early lead.
Breaking the deadlock in the series, a Tiger Woods-esque fistpump from Marczuk displayed the true emotion and relief felt throughout the organization after scoring the first goal of the 2025 season just over 200’ into the campaign.
