HERRIMAN, Utah (Friday, May 12, 2023) – Real Monarchs (3-4-0, 9 points, 9th in West) are set to take a trip to South Texas where they will face Houston Dynamo 2 (2-4-1, 11 points, 10th in West) on Sunday, May 14 at 5:00 p.m. MT.
Real Monarchs have won three out of their last 5 matches in MLS NEXT Pro competition. Despite dropping points in their last result against Tacoma Defiance the Monarchs have recently showed improving form with multiple players making significant contributions against the Defiance. Midfielder Gilberto Garcia became the first current RSL Academy player to have an offensive contribution with an assist to Duncan Jarvie who netted his first professional goal. Goalkeeper Fernando Delgado also made two impressive saves to keep the score deadlocked for the majority of the match until the 88th minute.
Sunday's match will be the fourth time Real Monarchs have faced an opponent on the road this season. Against opponents while away, the Monarchs have only lost one game during the 2023 campaign and currently hold a two-game win streak on the road. The Monarchs seek to continue this win streak and end the winless drought they have experienced in Space City.
Sunday's match will be streamed live via MLS Season Pass through Apple TV.
Head-to-Head: This match will mark just the third time the Real Monarchs have faced Houston Dynamo 2. The Houston side was recently formed to compete exclusively in MLS NEXT Pro during the 2022 season where they met Real Monarchs twice. Dynamo 2 have held a controlling record of 2-0 as the Salt Lake City side was unable to claim victory in either meeting.
