HERRIMAN, Utah (Friday, September 22, 2023) – Real Monarchs (8-14-5, 31 points, T-11th in West) prepares for its final game of the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro season against Portland Timbers 2 (10-16-1, 31 points, T-11th in West) on Sunday, September 24 (3:00p MT; streaming via Apple TV’s MLS Season Pass). Their last match out The Monarchs lost 3-0 at Zions Bank Stadium to Tacoma Defiance (14-5-8, 55 points, 2nd in West) in their final home match of the season.
Within their last seven matches the Real Monarchs have lost two out of their last seven, the losses coming against Tacoma Defiance and Colorado Rapids 2, respectively the second and first teams in the Western Conference. In The Monarchs last three on the road the team has acquired a 1W-1L-1D record and during the 2023 campaign Real Monarchs have tallied a 6W-6L-1D record, one of the better marks in MLS NEXT Pro this year. When on the road at Providence Park the Monarchs are undefeated in both games against Timbers 2 and have a controlling 4W-0L-1D performance against the Oregon side in MLS NEXT Pro matchups.
Real Monarchs and Portland Timbers 2 have met twice this season in April and June with The Monarchs taking both games by a total differential of eight goals. During the April matchup Real Monarchs thrashed Portland 5-1 with the help of Real Salt Lake Prospect Diego Luna’s brace. In the June matchup Bertin Jaccquesson and Terron Williams led The Monarchs to their second comeback victory in MLS NEXT Pro history after the opposition was first to score. In their final match of the season the Real Monarchs will look to remain undefeated against Portland this season and break the tie for the 11th spot in the Western Conference.
