REAL MONARCHS FALL 4-0 TO EL PASO IN FINAL MATCH OF 2020
Real Monarchs Close out Abbreviated Season with Young Starting Group
HERRIMAN, Utah (Sunday, October 4, 2020) – Real Monarchs (3-11-2, 11 points) played its final match of the 2020 United Soccer League Season, falling 4-0 to El Paso Locomotive FC at Zions Bank Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Head Coach Jamison Olave utilized a young squad with an average age of 20 years old, including Real Salt Lake Academy products Nicholas Bellini and Daniel Flores. El Paso came out strong, taking the early lead in the 8th minute with a goal from Dylan Mares. Despite several opportunities from both sides the scoreline remained 1-0 at the half.
Once again Real Monarchs saw several opportunities at goal, but it was Locomotive FC who was able to break through to goal. In the 68th minute Aaron Gomez doubled the lead when he cleaned up a rebound right in front of goal. Ten minutes later El Paso got its third of the match when Mares sent a pass over the backline to Saeed Robinson who broke off towards goal, going one-on-one with Jimmy Slayton to earn the goal. Just minutes later Robinson secured the brace, pouncing on an errant pass from Zachary Farnsworth for the fourth and final goal of the match.

ELP: Dylan Mares (Mcauley King), 8th minute: El Paso Locomotive defender Mcauley King hit a one-touch volley pass to Dylan Mares who ran onto the pass from outside the 18-yard-box, hammering home the shot to take the lead.
ELP: Aaron Gomez, 68th minute: Despite goalkeeper Jimmy Slayton making the initial save, Aaron Gomez was able to put the rebound into the back of the net to double the lead.
ELP: Saeed Robinson (Dylan Mares), 78th minute: Dylan Mares chipped a pass over the Monarchs’ backline to an oncoming Saeed Robinson who out ran Steve Jasso to go one-on-one with Jimmy Slayton. His shot hit the upper right-side of the goal for the third of the match.
ELP: Saeed Robinson, 87th minute: Saeed Robinson pounced on a forward pass from Zachary Farnsworth and hit the shot directly in the center of goal to earn the brace.
