HERRIMAN, Utah (Thursday, November 7, 2024) - Real Monarchs announce that defender Gio Villa, midfielder Luca Moisa, and academy call-up goalkeeper Will Mackay have been called-up to the United States Under-17 squad.
The trio will report to Head Coach Gonzalo Segres, a familiar face for Moisa and Villa. Segres aged with the 2008 group, transitioning from the U16 to U17 squad earlier this year. Segres will gather his squad in Palm Beach, Florida for training camp from November 10-16 to prepare for next February’s Concacaf U-17 Qualifiers, which will send eight teams to the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Moisa is coming off of his longest professional season appearing in 17 matches for the Monarchs, starting 8. In 829 minutes the crafty midfielder completed 86.8% of his passes, slotting in one assist on the year. Villa debuted as a professional subbing on in the second half of a 1-0 Monarchs win over Vancouver back on April 28th. The American defender earned his only start of the year the following week in a 2-3 loss to LAFC2 on May 5th. Mackay is also coming off of his longest professional season appearing and starting in 14 matches, logging three clean sheets and 32 saves on a 64% save rate.
Real Salt Lake is tied for most players selected for November’s camp, tying Philadelphia Union.
