Man of the Match: Midfielder Bode Davis covered a lot of ground along the right sideline in tonight’s match. In addition to ending the night with an 81.3% passing accuracy, Davis created three chances in the attack. Defensively, the Kaysville, Utah native won six duels and recorded three tackles, three clearances and one blocked shot.
Telling Stat: In a tightly-contested match, the Monarchs centerback pairing of Kyle Adams and Jaziel Orozco cleaned up the box and did their part to keep the visitors an own goal away from a shutout in El Paso. Adams and Orozco combined for a total of 12 clearances, five tackles and an interception. The duo also came together to win 12 duels, including six in the air and completed 143 passes out of the back at an impressive 91.7% clip.
What You Missed: Tonight’s match featured new-comer Leo Torres, a midfielder the Monarchs acquired on loan from San Antonio FC this week. In his debut, Torres came on as a second-half substitute in the 80th minute and immediately created some dangerous chances for the visitors. In addition, midfielder Malik Johnson missed the match tonight after being dismissed for receiving a second yellow card in the 90th minute of Sunday’s meeting against New York Red Bulls II. Missing the match due to injury were goalkeeper Gavin Beavers, midfielder Brayan Gomez and defender James Moberg.
So What: Tonight’s result in El Paso officially eliminates the Monarchs from the USL Championship playoff contention. Looking ahead to another Texas side this weekend, Real Monarchs now travel to Rio Grande Valley FC to take on the Toros on Saturday, October 2 at 6:30 p.m. MT for the final visit to H-E-B Park this season.
