HERRIMAN, Utah (February 23, 2024) - Utah Royals FC has announced that former Alta High and BYU star, Brecken Mozingo, has signed her first professional contract with the club through 2025 with an option for 2026. Ahead of signing, Mozingo has taken part in the Royals training camp which kicked off on January 22.
The Sandy, Utah native set a school record at Alta High School with 38 goals in a single season, previously held by another Utah Royals forward Michele Vasconcelos who scored 37 goals in a season. Out of high school, she attended UCLA, playing in six matches, before making the move back to Utah and BYU.
Mozingo enjoyed a successful career as a Cougar, featuring in 92 games and scoring 36 goals. She also provided 37 assists and was named a Mac Hermann finalist and a First-Team All-American for her efforts. The dynamic attacker was key to BYU’s run to the semi-final of the Women’s College Cup in 2023 where they came back from a three goal deficit to win 4-3 against fellow rookie and URFC forward Ally Sentnor.
“We are excited to bring yet another Utah native into the fold as we continue to finalize our 2024 roster,” said URFC Sporting Director Kelly Cousins, “Brecken’s path to the professional ranks embodies what young girls here in Utah can aspire to with the return of professional soccer to their backyards. Her work ethic and nose for goal have been on full display in preseason, and we are looking forward to seeing her make her professional debut.”
Drafted fourth overall at the 2024 NWSL Draft, Mozingo will look to translate her prolific NCAA career to the NWSL as the Royals relaunch the franchise ahead of the 2024 season.
