Herriman, Utah (March 11, 2024) - Utah Royals FC announced today that former Florida State University goalkeeper Cristina Roque has signed with the Club through the 2024 season with an option for 2025.
Roque was the 33rd overall pick in the 2024 NWSL Draft and second Seminole that Utah Royals FC selected.
Roque played in 67 games for the Seminoles over her 4 year career. She ended her time at FSU holding the school record for career wins (17) and career shutouts (16) in the NCAA Tournament. She was a crucial part in FSU’s path to the 2023 National Championship, making 23 appearances and only conceding 14 goals which lead to Roque being named to the NCAA Tournament All-Tournament Team.
"Cristina was a stellar shot stopper during her time at FSU" said URFC Sporting Director Kelly Cousins. "During preseason she has proved that she is ready to take the next step in her career and we are excited to be part of her development this year. She has the drive and talent and we hope this is the first step in a successful career."
Roque helped anchor the FSU defense alongside URFC teammate Lauren Flynn to 4 straight ACC Championships and 2 National Championships. They now look to make their mark in the NWSL under Head Coach Amy Rodriguez.
The Royals take the field for the first time since the 2020 Season on March 16 at America First Field at 5:30pm when they take on the Chicago Red Stars.
