Herriman, Utah (March XX, 2024) - Utah Royals FC announced today that former Florida State University defender Lauren Flynn has signed with the Club through the 2024 season with an option for 2025.
Flynn was the 16th overall pick in the 2023 NWSL Draft and second Seminole off the board. Flynn played in 79 games while making 70 starts for the Seminoles over the course of her career. A two-time NCAA Champion, Flynn ended her career with seven goals and three assists, five of those goals which came in 2023. While at FSU, she also helped the Seminoles to four straight ACC Championships.
“Lauren had an exceptional career in college and we are excited to officially welcome her to the Club,” said Sporting Director Kelly Cousins. “Her championship winning mindset will prove to be invaluable as we look to bring home silverware this year. Our collective goal is to win and by bringing in a serial winner like Lauren, we are laying down the foundation for a successful season.”
Voted the NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Defensive Player, Flynn was key for FSU’s title-winning defense in 2023 which conceded only one goal in tournament play against Stanford enroute to the program’s fourth NCAA title. The Arlington native can play anywhere across the backline and will look to secure a starting role under Head Coach Amy Rodriguez as the Royals embark on their first season back in the NWSL since 2020.
Utah Royals FC kick off the 2024 season on March 16 against Chicago Red Stars at 5:30pm MT at America First Field. Tickets are available at https://www.rsl.com/utahroyals/tickets/.
