Utah Royals FC is excited to announce the addition of midfielder Agnes Nyberg to the Royals family for the 2024 season.

The Swedish U23 international was born in Uppsala, Sweden and joins the Royals from Swedish second division side IK Uppsala.

Here are three fast facts to get you up to speed on the new URFC midfielder:

1. Ever Present In The Midfield

The 23-year-old midfielder started and played in all but one of IK Uppsala’s 26 games in the Swedish first division last season. Nyberg did her best to help her hometown team beat the drop in 2023, but unfortunately Uppsala was relegated to the second division by just one point on the final day, even after winning their last match 4-0.

2. Hometown Hero

Nyberg’s hometown of Uppsala is the fourth largest city in Sweden, behind Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö. Uppsala is also home to Scandinavia's largest cathedral (Uppsala Cathedral) and oldest university (Uppsala University). IK Uppsala, Nyberg’s hometown team and former Club, was founded in 2016 and were promoted to the Swedish first division for the first time in 2020. Nyberg would go on to make her debut for the Club during their maiden Damallsvenskan season, playing in 20 matches, starting 12 of them.

3. A New Beginning

From Sweden to Salt Lake, Nyberg will look to continue her career under the tutelage of head coach, Amy Rodriguez. The midfielder will join an engine room of Mikayla Cluff, Michele Vasconcelos, Emily Gray (North Carolina Courage), and Frankie Tagliaferri as she competes for minutes during the Royals first season back in the NWSL.

“I was blown away by the Club's new professional facilities, arena and the support from the fans and community that the club experienced last time they were in the league,” Nyberg said.

“I feel like coming to Utah is the perfect move for me and my career with the way Amy wants to play and to challenge myself in a new environment and well respected league. To play under a coach like Amy Rodriguez that has had such an amazing career both internationally winning gold with USA and having huge success within the league really inspired me to want to play under a coach with such experience. She knows what it takes to succeed and the importance of a good culture.”

“With the rest of the team and staff, I hope to develop and progress  both individually and collectively to have a very successful first season. I hope to bring my hard working, technical and tactical ability to the team to hopefully help us win a lot of games this season.”
