22 Games In, Utah Royals FC Has Already Had A Memorable 2026 NWSL Season

On September 4 after warmups ended, Utah Royals defender Kaleigh Riehl  was honored for her 100th NWSL appearance which came back on August 2nd in an historic win 5-1 against Portland Thorns FC. The game itself was a microcosm of the entire 2026 season, in which the Royals have had so much to celebrate.

As a collective, the Royals have set a new record for the most wins in a single season with 12. The Utah side went on a 10 game unbeaten streak beginning with a 1-1 tie against Washington Spirit on March 25th and lasting through the NWSL break where it was broken on July 5th in a 3-2 loss to the Chicago Stars FC.

The club has set new records for goals in a single game with five goals against Portland Thorns and four set piece goals in the 4-1 victory against North Carolina Courage.

Head Coach Jimmy Coenraets managed his 50th game at the helm for the Royals in the 2-1 defeat against Boston Legacy FC. Coenraets took over as interim on July 7th, 2024 in a 1-1 draw against Seattle Reign. He took over as full-time head coach on October 24, 2024 heading into the final match of the 2024 NWSL season.

In the Royals 3-2 home victory against Bay FC, Japanese international players, Mina Tanaka, Miyabi, Narumi all found the back of the net, marking the first time in NWSL history that three separate Japanese scorers scored in a single game.

Ana Tejada made her 50th Utah Royals and NWSL appearance in the Royals 2-2 tie against Portland Thorns on May 30. The Spanish midfielder has scored twice and recorded three assists since signing during the summer of 2024.

BYU graduate and Utah native, Brecken Mozingo made her 50th Utah Royals and NWSL appearance in the 2-1 loss away at Denver. Mozingo has scored once this season, netting the third goal for the royals in the club’s 5-1 victory against Portland Thorns.

Cloé Lacasse has tied the NWSL single season assists record, logging 10 in one season. Most memorably, she recorded three assists in a single half against Portland Thorns on August 2nd. The Canadian winger has contributed 17 goal involvements and is now second for most goal contributions in the league only behind Ashley Sanchez. Lacasse’s 17 goal contributions in a single season has broken the Royals previous club record of 12. She also has the club records for most assists and goal contributions.

University of Utah graduate Courtney Brown arrived to the Wasatch side as a free agent following two successful seasons with Washington Spirit. The Utah native scored her first Utah goal at home in the Royals 2-0 victory against Houston Dash on May 6th. Brown made her 50th NWSL appearance coming off the bench in the Royals 3-2 home victory against Bay FC.

Kaleigh Riehl made her 100th NWSL appearance for the club in the 5-1 victory at home against Portland Thorns on August 2nd. Since joining in the club’s inaugural season, Riehl has scored once back on September 14th, 2025 in the 2-0 victory against Houston and also recorded three assists.

Kate Del Fava logged 10,000 NWSL minutes during the Royals 4-1 victory away against North Carolina Courage. The two-time Royals Ironwoman has been selected to the NWSL Best XI twice this season, in the months of May and July. She continues to extend her hold on the club records for starts and minutes.

Former Royal Lara Prašnikar became the first Slovenian to score in NWSL history on March 22nd in the Royals 2-1 loss to San Diego Wave. During her short time at the club, Prašnikar scored twice while logging 660 minutes in 18 appearances for the Utah side.

USWNT goalkeeper Mandy McGlynn recorded her 200th career save in the Royals 3-2 loss on the road against Chicago Stars. McGlynn made her 50th Utah Royals appearance in Utah’s 2-0 victory at home against Houston Dash. The Royals goalkeeper is now the second goalkeeper in NWSL history to record two assists in her career after assisting Palacios on September 4 against Boston Legacy.

Tanaka was selected to August’s NWSL Best XI for her three goals during the month, including a goal that took her to the top of the Royals all-time goal scorers chart with 15. The Japanese international made her 50th NWSL and Royals appearance on Friday, September 4 against Boston Legacy FC. Tanaka recorded the club’s second brace on August 21st against San Diego, where she also scored the 100th goal in club history.
