QUOTE SHEET
Real Monarchs SLC 2-2 OKC Energy FC
Zions Bank Stadium; Herriman, UT
August 30, 2019
Head Coach Jamison Olave
On the overall game:
“I said to the players that it was frustrating. In the first half, we played really well. We created many chances, but we didn’t put them away. The second half we started a little flat, but we were still fighting and playing well. We put ourselves up, but we fell asleep for 1 second and they tied the game. We deserved a better result tonight.”
On Konrad’s goal:
“That’s what we expect from those guys: come to play. He didn’t play that much in the last games, but tonight he showed that he was ready. He showed that he is a professional player, he trained well, and that’s why he performed so well.”
On trying to climb the standings:
“The standings are tight. Tonight we lost 2 points, but we have a quick turnaround. We need to win that game, step up on the field, and do what we have to do to get 3 points. We have to keep ourselves in the playoff spot.”
Midfielder Jack Blake
On the final 10 minutes:
“It was just one lapse of concentration that cost us the game. We can’t score and then concede from the kickoff. That can’t happen. It’s frustrating to get the tie, but every point counts at this stage of the season. We’re staying positive, and looking at Wednesday.”
On getting 3 points against Las Vegas:
“Concentration for 90 minutes. We do it on a regular basis, we do it everyday in training. We just have to implement it into a game. I’m confident that we can do that, so we’re looking to get 3 points on Wednesday.”
Defender Konrad Plewa
On the goal:
“It was a set-piece, the play was for me at the back post. Unfortunately, it didn’t come off clean. Mo (Moberg) got a touch on it, and it popped up in the air. I saw it floating and the first thing that popped into my mind was just 'go for it,' and I’m glad that I didn’t hesitate.”
On possibly earning Goal of the Week:
“If that happens, that would be nice, but frankly it’s just disappointing not to come away with three points tonight. I thought we were the better team, but sometimes things just don’t go your way. A couple defensive mistakes that cost us. If I win GOTW, then I’ll be happy with it, but I’d prefer the 3 points.”
On the final 15 minutes:
“The game opened up, both teams were going for it. In a game like that, usually you’ll see a team sit back and try to get the points, but both teams came out to attack and go for it. Chances on both sides, which was probably entertaining for the fans, but it’s a headscratcher.”
On the mentality moving on to Wednesday:
“We’ve put ourselves in a good place, but getting 3 points tonight would have been huge for us. The objective is definitely to get 3 on Wednesday and on Saturday as well.”
