Hello, NWSL & URFC fans!
Allow me to properly introduce myself.
My name is Tyler Gibbons. I'm the creative director for the club.
What does that mean?
Well, my personal definition is:
I’m the person responsible for making sure the creative team (aka Team Awesome) has the tools, access & ability to deliver all the wonderful #soccer content our players, teams, club & fans deserve!
For short, I’m responsible for making sure Team Awesome stays awesome.
And to make sure you understand what Team Awesome does, I’ll define our responsibilities for you:
We’re the ones in charge of every single photo, video, podcast, article & post you see on our digital media platforms, inside & outside of the RioT. We run the TV shows you see in Utah. We run the social media accounts, PR, Broadcast, blah, blah & blah.
Basically, if you see something coming from RSL, URFC, the Monarchs, the Academy or any of our other club entities, we did it.
Are there a few exceptions?
Yes.
If you haven’t liked something we put out, then it was definitely someone else’s fault & their production, not ours haha.
Why am I telling you all this?
Well, one, because I’m very proud of Team Awesome.
I completely bias, but I believe Matt, Delia, Bobby, Trey, LP, Roscoe, Skyler, Carla, Nick, Taran, Samantha & Ryan are as good as it gets.
Not only are they talented individuals that consistently produce excellent stuff, but they all work their tails off & truly care about what we’re doing collectively.
It’s amazingly refreshing & an absolute honor to work with them.
insert sincere tears here.
I honestly spend more time with Team Awesome than I do my girlfriend & my dog.
Now, because we’re together so much, we approach our gigs & treat each other a certain way.
We balance out the stress that we feel from time to time with overt & complete sarcasm & humor.
To keep from going crazy, I need them to poke fun at me so I can return the favor.
It balances us out.
The other way we relieve stress is the creative freedom we’ve earned.
What does that mean?
Simply, we’re allowed to make stuff just to make stuff & express ourselves from time to time.
It’s cathartic.
We feel better when we switch it up on the photo side & do things different.
It’s a release to make a video in a one shot, Woody Allen-esque way.
Currently, for me, it’s the Mike Petke Coaches Show & writing the Regal Index / The Basics.
There is a reason we talk about the topics we do on that show & a reason I write about random things in those articles.
The crux of the basics & index articles are to provide you, the fan, the most pertinent information about our upcoming games.
The rest is just in good fun.
That’s why I write about how cool or not cool certain places we visit are. Or how great I think Team Awesome is … Simply because I can & want to.
No rhyme or reason other than jokes are fun.
Even the bad ones.
Maybe that’s where things are getting construed.
I know the internet is only for super serious people & no one should be allowed to have any fun … but, I’m going to try to change things one article at a time.
And, yes. I’ll admit the reason behind today’s novel is because I’ve seen your comments.
Our social media manager has gleefully passed them along to me the last few weeks.
And because I’m super sensitive, and all your comments hurt my soul, I wanted to explain the approach I take when scribing these things every week.
So, there you go … ya big jerk heads.
I still love y’all, though.
Sincerely,
Tyler
