Professional Career

 

2018: In his 12th season with Real Salt Lake, Rimando became the first goalkeeper in Major League Soccer history to reach 200 wins when he helped RSL claim a 3-2 home victory over his former side - D.C. United. Rimando finished the 2018 season having made 103 saves to earn seven shutouts. He featured in 33 matches, missing just one match due to injury.

 

2017: On may 18, Nick Rimando became the league's all-time leader in saves with 1,475, surpassing Kevin Hartman for the all-time lead. Rimando finished the season with 73 saves to earn eight shutouts. 

 

2016: Solidifying himself as the best goalkeeper in Major League Soccer history, Nick Rimando broke numerous all time records in his 2,700 minutes of play in 2016. Earning 6 shutouts, Rimando made 91 saves in 30 starts for RSL. On August 6 Rimando earned his 181^st career win to become the all time leader in wins among goalkeepers in MLS history, surpassing Kevin Hartman’s 180 wins. Rimando holds a career record of 183-140-101. Rimando now holds nearly every goalkeeping record that the league has to offer leading the way in games played (424), games started (424), minutes (38,313), wins (183), and shutouts (129). He is slowly working his way into the lead for the most saves in league history. On August 19 Rimando won the all-time best MLS goalkeeper bracket in a fan and player vote during MLS’s goalkeeper week, surpassing 15 other goalkeepers in the process.

 

2015: Rimando led the league with a 1.00 goals against average, tops among goalkeepers with at least 17 starts in 2015.  His eight shutouts bring his league-record career total to 123 clean sheets.  However, in 24 matches, his record was just 8-9-7 for his lowest single-season win total since 2007, ending a streak of seven consecutive double-digit win seasons for the Claret-and-Cobalt.  He remains the club’s all-time leader in games played with 249 matches, logging a 106-79-64 record with 87 shutouts.  In addition, he started five matches for the U.S. National Team, giving him 21 career international caps.

2014: Rimando continued to impress as one of the league’s premier goalkeepers, finishing the season with seven shutouts and a 1.04 goals against average in 24 matches.  His 13-4-7 record was his second-best campaign, in terms of points per match, since coming to Real Salt Lake in 2007.  He now has 79 shutouts in 225 appearances for RSL to lead all players in games played for the Claret-and-Cobalt.  On August 9, he earned his 113^th career clean sheet to pass Kevin Hartman as the all-time shutout leader in MLS history.  He now has 115 shutouts to his credit.  Rimando also earned his fourth All-Star nod in the last five seasons, starting for the MLS All-Stars against Bayern Munich.  Five times during the season, he was voted MLS Save of the Week, more than any other player in the league in 2014.  In addition to his MLS exploits, Rimando also was named to the U.S. National Team for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, but did not make an appearance in Brazil.  He did appear in four friendlies for the U.S. in 2014, earning a 2-0 shutout against South Korea in February, going 2-0-2 in those four appearances.

 

2013: Appeared and started in 27 regular season games for RSL … Registered nine shutouts and made 82 saves in the regular season, posting a 14-7-6 record ... 2012: Started 31 of RSL’s 34 regular season contests, all four CONCACAF Champions League matches and both MLS Cup Playoff appearances for RSL … His 12 shutouts were second to Kansas City’s Jimmy Nielsen (15) for the MLS regular season lead; also registered three clean sheets in CCL play and one in the MLS Cup Playoffs … 16 wins tied Rimando for third in MLS with ex-L.A. and current RSL GK Josh Saunders and Chicago GK Sean Johnson … 1.06 GAA was fourth in MLS and third best of his career … Registered six saves in the rain in RSL’s 3-2 win at Portland on March 31 … Also registered six stops on April 21 at San Jose, May 5 against New England and Sept. 29 at Chivas USA … Allowed just three goals in his final seven regular season starts, shutting out Philadelphia on Aug. 24, D.C. on Sept. 1, Chivas USA on Sept. 29 and Seattle on Oct. 17 during the impressive streak … Registered the 99^th MLS regular season shutout of his career in his final start of the regular season on Oct. 17 at Seattle … Saved two of four penalty kick attempts during the  regular season, taking him to 17-for-57 on regular season PK attempts during his career, the best ever mark against penalties in MLS history … Turned in a performance for the ages in both legs of RSL’s Western Conference Semifinal series, making remarkable stop after remarkable stop against the Sounders despite suffering a broken nose midway through the first leg … Made nine saves total in RSL’s 0-1 Western Conference Semifinal loss to Seattle, getting beaten only by a truly unstoppable curling half-volley from Sounders MF Mario Martinez late in the second leg at Rio Tinto Stadium
 

2011: Started all but one of RSL’s 34 regular season contests, all six CONCACAF Champions League Championship Stage matches and all three MLS Cup Playoff appearances for RSL … His 13 shutouts were tied with Kevin Hartman (DAL) for the regular season lead in the category, while he also added two clean sheets in CCL play (2/22 @ CLB, QF Leg 1 & 3/15 v. Saprissa, SF Leg 1) … 14 wins were third best across MLS, and made him the first goalkeeper in League history to record four 14+ win campaigns … Wrapped up play in CCL knockout rounds with a 2-2-2 record, 1.00 GAA (6 GA in 540 min.) and 2 shutouts … Five-game winning streak from 8/27 @ CHV through 9/21 @ NY marked the third 5+ game winning streak of his career … 1.09 GAA was T-5^th in MLS and the third lowest mark of his 12-year career … Notched fourth-longest shutout streak of regular season at 409 minutes (4/30 @ POR through 5/28 v. 2010: In 34 overall regular season and Cup appearances (3,040 minutes), allowed only 31 goals en route to a sparkling 18-6-10 record, 0.91 GAA, and 14 shutouts … His MLS regular season numbers were even more impressive: 27 games played (all starts), with a 15-4-6 record, 0.67 GAA, and 14 shutouts … The 0.67 GAA was the 2^nd lowest single-season mark in MLS history, behind only Kevin Hartman’s 0.62 for FC Dallas (also in 2010), while besting the previous League record held by Houston’s Pat Onstad from 2007 (0.82) … The 14 clean sheets were not only a career-high but also the 2^nd best single-season mark in MLS annals, behind only Tony Meola’s 16 shutouts for Kansas City in 2000 … 15 wins equaled his previous high-water mark (2001 w/ Miami, 2005 w/ DC) … Named an MLS All-Star for just the 2^nd time in his illustrious career (2001) … His 567-minute (5/29 v. 2009: His 1.14 GAA was the third lowest of his 10-year MLS career, while his 10 wins (10-10-6) were T-3^rd(6^th season w/ double-digit wins) and his 9 shutouts ranking second-most (11 SHO in 2005) … Finished among MLS’ Top 10 with a 1.14 GAA (8^th), 9 shutouts (T-5^th), and 10 wins (T-5^th) … Ranks 6^th all-time amongst MLS goalkeepers with 92 wins; 228 games played and started; 20,673 minutes played; and 888 saves while placing T-5^th with 60 shutouts …  Now RSL’s career leader with 83 games started and ranks 2^nd in club history with 83 games played (A. Williams – 128 ) … Missed 3 games with a L 3^rd finger laceration, suffered late in first half on 5/02 @ COL … Stopped both PK attempts faced in regular season play in 2009 … PK save of Brad Davis on 6/20 @ HOU in the 74^th minute temporarily kept RSL in the lead what was an eventual 1-1 draw … His PK stop on Jeff Cunningham on 7/24 v DAL (71’) was the 13^th in 42 attempts on his goal during his career (31%) … Contributed the game-winning assist on 8/08 v. 2008: One of four ‘keepers to play every minute for his squad in 2008 (w/ Busch, Cannon & Hartman) … Only RSL player to log all 2,700 minutes in 2008 and one of two RSL members (w/ Beckerman) to start all 30 contests … Finished season in top six across MLS with 10 wins (T-5^th), 8 shutouts (5^th) and a 1.30 GAA (T-6^th) … Broke or tied RSL single-season records in wins (tied w/ Garlick, 2006), shutouts, and a .500 winning % … Owned 2^nd longest shutout streak of the 2008 MLS season at 355 minutes (6/28 @ KC – 7/28 v. TOR), breaking his own club record in the category for the second time during the season (284 minutes from 5/31 v. SJ through 6/21 v. NE) … One of two ‘keepers to post a pair of shutouts streaks in the season’s top 10 (w/ Hartman – KC) … Named MLS Player of the Month for July after going 2-0-2 with 3 shutouts & 1 GA in four games … Played 5 minutes in midfield for the RSL Reserves on 8/06 @ DAL … Made 200^th MLS regular season start & appearance on 10/09 v. 2007: Finished season among MLS leaders with 146 saves (1^st), 76.4 save % (2^nd), 1.37 GAA (7^th) and 7 shutouts (7^th) … His 146 saves in just 27 games were tops in MLS by 26 saves and also shattered the RSL single-season record (112 by D.J. Countess, 2005) … Made a career-high 13 SVS on 6/02 @ NE … 13 saves tied him for the fourth-most stops in an MLS contest … Also stopped 12 shots in a scoreless draw on 9/15 @ TFC … Acquired, traded, then re-acquired by RSL during the off-season, he final deal bringing Rimando back to Utah from NYRB in exchange for a 2008 MLS SuperDraft pick and 2009 MLS Supplemental Draft pick on 2/23/07.

2006: Made just two appearances in a back-up role behind Troy Perkins after overcoming nagging injuries during the first half of the season … Stayed sharp in MLS Reserve Division play, allowing only four goals in eight starts in which he posted an impressive 0.57 GAA and 5-2-0 record, the five wins leading all ‘keepers in RD action.

2005: Returned to full strength and had one of his best seasons, notching a career-high 11 shutouts while maintaining an impressive 1.17 GAA and tying his career-best of 15 wins … Notched an assist on 9/10 at FC Dallas when he sent a long punt to Jamil Walker, whose subsequent pass led to a goal by Santino Quaranta in D.C.’s 2-1 win … That season, broke DC’s club records for games played in goal, games started in goal, minutes played in goal, saves, and shutouts.

2004: A right knee injury limited Rimando to just 13 appearances – all starts … Still managed to record a 7-3-3 record and a career-best and club-record 1.00 GAA … After returning from a torn ACL in 2003, experienced other injury difficulties and opted to have surgery during the mid-season All-Star break to repair the meniscus in his right knee … Gave United momentum going into the 2004 MLS Cup Playoffs by posting three shutouts in the team’s final six games, including a scoreless streak of 274 minutes down the stretch … Went 4-0-0 in postseason play, his 1.15 GAA helping United to its fifth MLS Cup crown.

2003: Logged 2,318 minutes, stretching his cumulative minutes played to 6,016 dating back to July 4^th of 2001 … The mark fell just 50 minutes short of the MLS all-time record for consecutive minutes played when he limped off of the turf at Giants Stadium with a torn ACL on 9/25 at MET … Equaled a DC team single-season record with seven shutouts.

2002: Recorded club-record seven shutouts and United’s single-season record for saves (131) … Only player on DC to log every minute (2,588) during the 2002 season, which also ranked tops in MLS … One of six players recognized as MLS Player of the Week on multiple occasions (Weeks 15 & 27).

2001: Set several team records for Miami Fusion FC in his first full season, including wins (15) and shutouts (5) … Posted a 15-5-5 record and 1.29 GAA, numbers that helped Miami garner the 2001 Supporters Shield … Earned a starting nod in the MLS All-Star Game and an invite to Bruce Arena’s U.S. National Team training camp.

2000: Made five saves and recorded a shutout in his MLS debut for MIA, a 1-0 overtime win vs. DC on 5/10 … Finalist for the Nickelodeon GAS Play of the Year for a one-handed save on DC’s Bobby Convey’s shot on 8/05 … Recorded a game-winning assist on 5/13 vs. COL in a 2-1 victory … Posted a 2-1-0 record in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and made a PK save in the Final on 10/21 at CHI.
