2015-2016 Portland Timbers 2: As a 2013 College Cup champion with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Besler was drafted by the Timbers in the first round (fifth overall) in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft and was with the club for two seasons, but did not make a first team appearance. Instead, Besler spent two seasons on loan with USL Portland Timbers 2. Besler made his professional debut on March 30, 2015 in a 3-1 victory over Real Monarchs on his way to 50 appearances for the club. Besler scored his first professional goal in the 2016 season opener on March 27, 2016 in a match against Swope Park.
