U.S. Soccer held its draw for hosting rights for the championship match of the 2015 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday and Real Salt Lake has one scenario in which it would host the final, if the Claret-and-Cobalt can advance past Sporting Kansas City in the semifinal round next week.
If RSL can top Kansas City in next Wednesday’s match at Sporting Park, Salt Lake would either host the Philadelphia Union or go on the road to face the Chicago Fire in the championship match on September 30.
Real Salt Lake will meet Sporting Kansas City for the fourth time this season on Wednesday, August 12. In the first three matches, RSL has gone 2-0-1, with both victories coming at Rio Tinto Stadium. In the lone meeting at Sporting Park, they played to a 0-0 draw on April 11.
Against Philadelphia, RSL played to a 3-3 draw at home on March 14, while Salt Lake topped Chicago 2-1 at Toyota Park on May 9.
The Union hosts Chicago on August 12 at PPL Park. The two Eastern Conference foes have met just once this year, a 1-0 home win for the Fire on March 29.
Both semifinal matches will be shown live on the U.S. Soccer YouTube channel.
