SANDY, Utah (Friday, April 26, 2018) – Utah Royals FC is set for its first regular season match of the 2019 NWSL season away from home as it travels to Orlando, Florida to face the Orlando Pride on Saturday, April 27. Kickoff from Orlando City Stadium is set for 5:30p MT and be seen live KMYU and the KSL TV app.
URFC began its second season in the NWSL with a 1-0 shutout victory over the Washington Spirit last Saturday at Rio Tinto Stadium. MF Lo’eau LaBonta scored her first goal for URFC and GK Nicole Barnhart finished with two saves in the shutout victory in front of 18,015 fans in Sandy.
Utah Royals FC has faced Orlando on three occasions, posting a 0-1-2 record against the Pride. The Utah club returns to the site of its inaugural match in 2018, a match that saw MF Gunny Jónsdóttir score the first goal in team history just three minutes into the match. Saturday’s match will be the second visit to Orlando City Stadium for Utah Royals FC as it seeks its first win in Orlando.
URFC returns core players for 2019 including DF’s Becky Sauerbrunn, Rachel Corsie, Kelley O’Hara, Becca Moros, Samantha Johnson, and Katie Bowen. On the attacking side, FW’s Christen Press, Amy Rodriguez, and Katie Stengel were all retained for the 2019 season. MF Veronica “Vero” Boquete will also be essential to the Utah Royals FC roster withstanding departures for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The NWSL will witness a World Cup year in 2019, with URFC expecting seven players to make appearances with their respective international teams for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup held in France. The World Cup dates are set for June 7 to July 7 with international team members scheduled to return prior to the end of the NWSL regular season.
