The Real Salt Lake-Arizona Academy teams went into the winter break with a full head of steam as the U-18 and U-16 sides continue their success in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy.
RSL-AZ’s U-18s hold a nine-point lead through the first 16 matches in the Southwest Division. They have gone unbeaten in the last 11 matches, including wins in the last nine matches, to post a 12-1-3 overall record. In that winning streak, they have outscored the opposition 32-9.
They have done it with spread out scoring too. Three different players – Damian German, Brooks Lennon and Edgar Duran – are all in double-digit scoring, with German leading the way with 11 goals while Lennon and Duran are both at ten.
In all, the U-18s have outscored their opponents 51-18 in 16 matches, scoring five goals in five separate matches. They return to league play on January 17 at Grande Sports World.
At the U-16 level, RSL-AZ is in fourth place in the division at 7-4-5. Like the U-18s, the U-16s were rolling into the break with a four-match unbeaten streak. In that run, they have allowed just one goal, going 2-0-2 with a 6-1 scoring edge.
While they don’t have the scoring punch of the U-18s, the U-16s have had 13 different players contribute to their 26 goals this season, led by Aristotle Zarris with five tallies. They, too, will resume their season on January 17 at Grande Sports World.
