SANDY, Utah – Real Salt Lake forward Alvaro Saborio has left the Costa Rican national team and is returning to the U.S. on Monday after suffering a left calf injury while with Los Ticos.
Saborio – who has 10 goals in 13 league games for RSL this year – will be evaluated by the Claret-and-Cobalt’s medical staff on Tuesday. The extent of his injury is not yet known. The big striker played the final 10 minutes in Costa Rica’s 3-1 home World Cup Qualifying win over the U.S. on Friday.
Real Salt Lake will return to action on Friday, when it will take on Seattle Sounders FC in a nationally televised match on the NBC Sports network at 8:00 p.m. MT at CenturyLink Field.
RSL’s American internationals Kyle Beckerman and Nick Rimando are expected to be available for the Claret-and-Cobalt on Friday after they return to the team following Tuesday’s U.S.-Mexico World Cup Qualifier in Columbus. RSL defender and Gambian international Abdoulie Mansally will also be available for the Seattle game after playing the full 90 for Gambia in its 2-0 win over Tanzania on Saturday.
