The Real Salt Lake Academy continued the 2022-23 MLS NEXT regular season, traveling to the Pacific Northwest to face Seattle Sounders and Portland Timbers. The two sides earned a combined seven out of 12 possible points in their second weekend of matches.Â
Led by Head Coach Jordan Allen, the U-15s went undefeated on the weekend, taking all three points from Seattle Sounders and a point from Portland Timbers. The U-15s began the weekend jumping in front of the Sounders early with forward Axel Uriostegui finding the back of the net just six minutes into the match. RSL was able to keep its net clean for the remainder of the match, earning a 1-0 victory in Seattle. The next day the U-15s and the Timbers played to a scoreless draw, securing another point on the road and two shutouts on the weekend. Â
Head Coach Andrew May’s U-17s split the results on the weekend, defeating Portland Timbers and falling to Seattle Sounders. In the first match, Real Salt Lake started on the front foot, scoring two goals in the first half. Midfielder Izzy Amparo kicked off the scoring, netting a solo goal in the 20th minute while RSL Homegrown Jude Wellings broke through just before the end of the first half, scoring on an assist by Beto Garcia. Despite the early scoring spree, the U-17s fell to the Sounders 3-2. To round out the weekend, Wellings netted a late dagger in the 83rd minute to steal three points from the Timbers in a 1-0 victory.
Up Next: The Real Salt Lake Academy will fly to Northern California to take on San Jose Earthquakes on Sunday, October 16 at 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. MT respectively.
