Over the weekend the RSL Academy hosted the LA Galaxy Academy at the Zions Bank Real Academy where the U-17s earned a draw as the U-19s claimed victory.
The first match of the day saw the U-17s open up the scoring just two minutes into the match when Bode Davis notched his tenth goal of the season. LA Galaxy stormed back however, scoring in the 72nd minute to draw the match level through Alejandro Alvarado Jr. The 1-1 draw sees RSL remain in the top wildcard spot in the U.S.S.D.A. Southwest Division table with two regular season matches remaining.
The U-17s now turn its attention to the Generation adidas Cup starting on Saturday in Frisco, Texas. RSL has been placed in Group C of the Championship Division, the tournament’s top flight. RSL’s full GA Cup schedule can be found here.
RSL won the tournament in 2008 when it defeated D.C. United 5-4 in a penalty shootout at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado. In total, RSL has featured in the GA Cup final on three occasions, falling to D.C. United in 2010 at Robertson Stadium in Houston, Texas before losing to England’s Stoke City in 2014 at Toyota Stadium in Frisco.
Against the LA Galaxy, RSL found a second half brace from midfielder Diran Bebekian to solidify a 2-1 home victory. The come-from-behind victory places RSL in second place in the U.S.S.D.A. The Barca Academy owns four less points than RSL, but have earned more points in fewer matches played.
