RSL Transfer Deadline Roundup

Real Salt Lake stayed busy during the Major League Soccer transfer deadline, bringing in three new players to help the Claret-and-Cobalt in their journey to the MLS playoffs while also completing five outgoing moves as well.

Incomings

Bio: Forward Danny Musovski was brought in from Los Angeles Football Club in exchange for $250,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM). Over three seasons with LAFC, Musovski scored 11 goals and earned five assists. Musovski was born in Henderson, Nevada and would go onto play collegiate soccer at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas where he was a two-time All-America selection. After being selected by the San Jose Earthquakes in the 2018 MLS Draft, Musovski would make a name for himself in the USL where heā€™d eventually get picked up by LAFC.

When will we see Musovski in Claret-and-Cobalt?

After rehabbing from a minor injury sustained while at LAFC, Musovski could start full training at the end of next week.

Bio: Midfielder Braian Ojeda joins Real Salt Lake on loan from Premier League side Nottingham Forest. Ojeda began his career with Olimpia in Paraguay before making the move across the Atlantic to Nottingham where he made three appearances. The 22-year-old has also made four appearances for the Paraguay National Team and becomes RSLā€™s first ever U-22 initiative signing.

When will we see Ojeda in Claret-and-Cobalt?

Ojeda is currently training in Nottingham and going through the visa process. Once the appointment for his passport is scheduled the Club will have a better understanding of when heā€™ll be able to join his new teammates at RSL.

Bio: Fullback Bryan Oviedo signed with Real Salt Lake following spells at clubs like Saprissa, FC, NordsjƦlland, Everton, Sunderland and most recently F.C. Copenhagen. Oviedo has also made 71 appearances for Costa Rica National Team and played in the 2018 World Cup with the Ticos. Oviedo was born in San Jose, Costa Rica, and will become the fifth ever Costa Rican to appear for Real Salt Lake.

When will we see Oviedo in Claret-and-Cobalt?

Oviedo, who is currently in Costa Rica, is in the process of getting his visa inserted into his passport. Once that is completed there is hope he could join RSL as early as Saturday during the match against Vancouver Whitecaps.

Outgoings

Bio: Real Salt Lake loaned defender Bret Halsey to USL Championship side Colorado Switchbacks FC. Halsey was the seventh overall pick in the 2021 MLS Superdraft and has spent a majority of his two seasons at the Club with the Real Monarchs.

Bio: Real Salt Lake declined to extend the loan of SK Beveren defender Chris Kablan. Kablan made two appearances for RSL before returning to his parent Club.

Bio: Real Salt Lake transferred midfielder Everton Luiz to Belgian second tier side SK Beveren. Luiz made 82 appearances for RSL including helping the Claret-and-Cobalt to the 2019 and 2021 playoffs.

Bio: Real Salt Lake loaned forward Joni Menendez to Club Atletico Velez Sarsfield in Argentina for the remainder of the year. Menendez joined RSL in 2021 from Club Atletico Independiente and made 24 appearances for the Club.

David Ochoa

Bio: Real Salt Lake traded Homegrown goalkeeper David Ochoa to D.C. United in exchange for $75,000 in 2023 General Allocation Money (GAM). Ochoa rose through the ranks of the RSL Academy before starring for Real Monarchs and going on to make 43 appearances for the first team. Ochoa was a crucial part of RSLā€™s 2021 run to the Western Conference finals including pitching a 120-minute shutout against the Seattle Sounders. Ochoa only made one appearance for RSL in 2022.
