SANDY, Utah (Saturday, July 24, 2010) – Real Salt Lake controlled its annual Pioneer Day contest against “Class of 2005” expansion mate Chivas USA this evening, but a second half lead for the home side would be short lived as the Western Conference rivals settled for a 1-1 draw in front of a sellout crowd of 19,469 at Rio Tinto Stadium.
After pressing the issue for most of the
first hour, Real Salt Lake (9-4-4, 31 pts.) would take the lead in the 66th
minute through MF Ned Grabavoy’s fantastic volley from the edge of the
area off a poorly cleared corner. However, the lead would last only four
minutes, as MF Jesus Padilla made an instant impact off the bench for
Chivas USA (4-9-3, 15 pts.), his dipping shot from distance crossing up and sneaking
through the legs of RSL GK Nick Rimando.

Real Salt Lake Notes
·Real Salt Lake saw the return of MF Kyle Beckerman to the line-up this evening, the 28-year-old captain hitting the field for the first time since suffering a torn tendon in his left foot at Chivas USA back on May 22. Beckerman played an active 62 minutes on the evening before being replaced by Grabavoy.
·Real Salt Lake’s home undefeated streak in MLS play at Rio Tinto Stadium has reached 19 games, which now stands alone as the second longest such streak in Major League Soccer’s 15-year history. Only the 22-game streak by the Columbus Crew in is longer than RSL’s current run:

·Real Salt Lake’s 20 shots and eight shots on goal were the second most in a single-game for the squad this season, both runners-up to a 24-shot, 12-shot-on-goal effort in its 5-0 win over New England during its previous home match on July 2.
·Three of Real Salt Lake’s four MLS All-Stars – MF Javier Morales, DF Jamison Olave and GK Nick Rimando – will travel down to Houston on Monday to take part in Wednesday’s 2010 AT&T MLS All-Star Game against Manchester United at Reliant Stadium. The fourth member of RSL’s All-Star contingent, Kyle Beckerman, will remain with the Claret-and-Cobalt to focus on getting back to 100% fitness following his return from injury tonight.
·There will be no All-Star break for the rest of the Claret-and-Cobalt, who will look to push the home undefeated streak to 20 games next Saturday, July 31, when D.C. United (3-11-3, 12 pts.) comes to Sandy for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff at Rio Tinto Stadium.
