Today in conjunction with Major League Soccer, Real Salt Lake and the RSL Academy announced the groups and full schedule for the upcoming Generation adidas Cup held from April 13-20 in Frisco, Texas.
The RSL Academy U-17s have been placed in Group C of the Championship Division, the tournament’s top flight. RSL will face off with fellow MLS Academy side New York City FC, Argentina powerhouse CA River Plate and France’s Olympique Lyonnais. RSL will open the tournament on April 13 against River Plate at 9:45a MT before a double game day on April 14 against NYCFC at 9:45a MT and Lyon at 4:45p MT.

RSL won the tournament in 2008 when it defeated D.C. United 5-4 in a penalty shootout at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado. In total, RSL has featured in the GA Cup final on three occasions, falling to D.C. United in 2010 at Robertson Stadium in Houston, Texas before losing to England’s Stoke City in 2014 at Toyota Stadium in Frisco.
The 2019 Generation adidas Cup will feature Clubs from 14 different countries will convene at the Toyota Soccer Center at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas from April 13-20 in a tournament featuring elite professional club academies from North America, Asia, Europe and South America.
The future stars of RSL and MLS will test their skills against some of the most renowned professional academies in the world in the expanded U-17 competition that includes 15 premier international clubs. Among the esteemed international academies set to play in the 2019 Generation adidas Cup include England’s West Ham United, France’s Olympique Lyonnais, Spain’s Valencia, Brazilian side Flamengo, and Croatian giant Dinamo Zagreb, among others.
Although the RSL U-15s aren’t involved in this year’s GA Cup, the newly formed U-15 tournament between MLS and Liga MX clubs is the latest competitive initiative in the collaboration between the two leagues, following in the footsteps of the Campeones Cup and the annual MLS Homegrown Game team which pits the MLS squad against a Liga MX U-20 opponent. Chivas de Guadalajara, Club Leon, Cruz Azul and Monterrey will each face the four MLS sides once, setting up an exciting fifth and final matchup pitting the first-place Liga MX side against the top MLS club in a winner-take-all showdown.

Prior to the commencement of the 2019 GA Cup, the RSL Academy will host the LA Galaxy on April 6 in regular season action with the U-17s kicking off at 11:00a MT before the U-19s kick off at 1:30p MT at the Zions Bank Real Academy in Herriman.
