FRISCO, Texas (Tuesday, April 12, 2022) — Following their loss on Tuesday afternoon, the Real Salt Lake Academy U17s have fallen short of a berth into the 2022 Generation Adidas Cup playoffs. However, the team will still play three more matches as part of the tournament's showcase, beginning with FC Dallas on Wednesday, April 13 at 1:00 p.m. MT. The RSL Academy U17s will also face FC Cincinnati and DC United as part of the showcase.
The team finished the group stage of the GA Cup with a 0-1-2 record, with draws against CF Montreal and Tigres UANL. Midfielder Izzy Amparo led the way with two goals, while forward Terron Williams added one of his own against Houston Dynamo. Team captain Jude Wellings provided two assists and Jaden Jackson added one as well.
Goalkeepers Blake Kelly and Javier Zaragoza split time in-between the pipes, with defenders Ethan Zamora, Aldo Carmona, Gershon Henry and Marcus Vasquez starting all three matches. Finally, midfielder Abokye Bikyeombe played every minute of all three matches.
Wednesday’s opponent, FC Dallas, also finished third in the group, behind Columbus Crew and St. Louis City SC, but ahead of Club Tijuana. They finished the group stage with a 1-0-2 record, defeating Columbus while earning draws against the other two, but failing to come out on top during the penalty shoutouts.
