FRISCO, Texas (Thursday, April 13, 2022) — The Real Salt Lake Academy U15s are set to compete in the Club’s first-ever 2022 Generation Adidas Cup U15 Quarterfinal against Spain’s Valencia CF on Thursday, April 13 at 3:00 p.m MT. The match will be live streamed on Youtube and Twitch via the Major League Soccer page.
The team punched their ticket to the Quarterfinal after a 1-0 victory in the Round of 16 over Austin FC, courtesy a tap-in from forward Tony Ramirez assisted by fellow forward Zavier Gozo. Head Coach Andrew May earned his fourth-consecutive win and second shutout at the tournament in large part due to the performances of goalkeeper Ty Rinker and defenders Carlos Castrejon, Dylan Garcia, Luis Rivera and Jahmani Stapelton.Â
Meanwhile, Valencia CF advances to the Quarterfinals after defeating Universidad Nacional 1-0 in the Round of 16. Valencia finished the Group Stage with a 1-1-1 record, beating D.C. United 6-0, while drawing with Houston Dynamo FC before falling to New York City FC.
Real Salt Lake is looking to make it to the finals of the Generation Adidas Cup for the first time since 2014 when they fell to Stoke City in penalty kicks. Should the U15s vanquish Valencia CF they will play the winner of Atlanta United and Tigres UANL on Friday, April 15.
