FRISCO, Texas (Saturday, April 9, 2022) – The Real Salt Lake Academy U15s opened up the 2022 Generation Adidas Cup with a 3-1 win over FC Dallas, placing them at the top of their group heading into their second match tomorrow, Sunday, April 10 against FC Cincinnati.
The RSL Academy U15s started the game with a solid defensive first half, fighting some major wind in Frisco, the team was able to get to the halftime break level at 0-0.
Out of the halftime break, the U15’s were able to find some rhythm offensively, with Luca Moisa getting the team’s opening goal. Moments later forward Zavier Gozo got his first of the tournament to take the two-goal lead. However, FC Dallas was able to pull one back, looking to strike a comeback. But it was Gozo who put the final nail in the coffin, giving the Claret-and-Cobalt the 3-1 win.
RSL U15 Head Coach Andrew May on the win: “It was really really good. Obviously match day one is really hard. I think the host, FC Dallas, here, they’re used to the wind. That was a big big factor. I’m just really happy that the boys competed and ultimately got the three points and the job done.”
May noted that the quick turnaround format of the tournament will see some roster rotation and that he is confident in the depth of his team and that anyone will be able to step in and be ready.
Moisa on the match: “I felt that the game went well. The first half we played good against the wind by not conceding. The second half, the goals just started coming. After about 20 minutes into the half I scored and they just kept coming and coming and we eventually just got the win. I thought I played good. The first half we did good defending against the wind and the second half I opened the scoring. It was just good overall, our team performance overall. This is a good opening game winning 3-1. It’s going to set up the rest of our games.
