The Real Salt Lake Academy U-15 squad continued its tour of Germany with another international friendly, this time a 2-1 victory over FC Heidenheim with goals from forwards Armani Haro and Van Parker.Â
In the second friendly of the week Head Coach Jordan Allen rolled out a new lineup, with the exception of center backs Isaac Murphy and Garret Windle. With a new squad the team struggled to settle into the match, but as the first half progressed the team began pressing forward, gaining more and more offensive momentum.Â
In the 32nd minute offensive pressure from Lorenzo Tuch and Rowan Martin gave way to a penalty kick. Haro stepped up and hit his shot down the middle, to take the 1-0 lead. Minutes later Parker doubled the lead when he floated in a header via service from Javier Martinez, giving RSL a 2-0 lead heading into the halftime break.Â
The start of the second half saw the two sides battling back and forth, with Heidenheim pressing forward, looking to crawl back into the game. In the 65th minute Heidenheim found the back of the net after a screamer bounced off the crossbar and down over the line. Despite pressure, Heidenheim was unable to claim the equalizer and Real Salt Lake took the 2-1 victory.Â
Real Salt Lake Academy will now begin competition in the Augsburg Whitsun Tournament. The Claret-and-Cobalt will participate in the opening match of the tournament, facing hosts FC Augsburg on Friday, August 19 at 10:00 a.m. MT.
