Growing up in the desert heat of Las Vegas, Nevada, Luca Moisa had to learn how to adjust quickly in difficult situations. But the midfielder bloomed like a desert flower into a smart, speedy player with a fire to improve.
Moisa started playing soccer with the local club Heat FC and rapidly became an essential part of the 2007 team, a team filled with players that were bigger, stronger, and older than him. In the summer of 2021, the Nevada native decided to join Real Salt Lake Academy to take his game to the next level.
Upon his arrival, Moisa struggled to find his place in the lineup during the fall. But, thanks to his time battling the heat in Las Vegas, the young midfielder got stronger and started to find his groove, eventually working his way into the starting lineup and is now a lynchpin in the midfield for the Academy. In the MLS NEXT Cup, Moisa has two assists including one on the game-winning goal in the quarterfinal match against Chicago Fire.
Of his time in Utah, Moisa said, “I really like it because it’s a different experience than what I had at Heat, and it’s way better competition.” Since joining the U-15 team, the midfielder has shown flashes of his potential, including scoring the club’s opening goal in the 2022 Generation Adidas Cup.
But Moisa recognizes the need to get away from the game. While he admits he spends most of his free time playing soccer, the Las Vegas native also likes to take a break every once in a while. “I like to work out on the side and just other activities that are all completely different to get out of soccer sometimes. Once in a while, you just need a break.”
This recognition hasn’t dampened Moisa’s dreams of success in the present or the future. The midfielder is feeling pretty good about the team’s chances in MLS NEXT Cup and his own chances in the future when they come. “We have a good and strong team, and we can go all the way.” Moisa hopes to sign a professional contract and eventually play in Europe.
