The Real Salt Lake Academy spent the past week featuring in tournaments across the country with U-12 teams through U-17s all playing to successful tournament appearances.
The RSL Academy U-15s participated in the first ever LA Galaxy Cup held in Irvine, California, ultimately claiming the tournament title after a 1-0 victory over San Diego Surf in the final at Orange County Great Park Stadium on April 1. RSL reached the final of the U-15 bracket by not conceding a single goal in the tournament and scoring 12 total goals in just four matches played.
The U-14 group participated in the LA Galaxy Cup featuring in the International Division of the tournament where it topped the LA Galaxy 1-0, drew with Real So Cal 1-1 and capped the week by beating world powerhouse Manchester United, 4-3.
RSL U-12s played in the Generation adidas Cup held in Frisco, Texas where it tied Orlando City SC 3-3, fell to DC United and the Chicago Fire 0-1 and 1-2 respectively before drawing with the Galaxy 1-1 and beating Colorado Rapids. RSL U-12s fell to the Red Bulls to close out the week.
The U-17s returned to Utah after participating in the Generation adidas Cup where on March 23, the Academy fell 1-0 to Orlando City SC before a 2-2 draw with the Houston Dynamo that gave way to RSL falling 7-8 in penalties on March 25.
On Monday, the Academy faced off against C.F. Monterrey for its final match of the group stages ultimately beating Monterrey 2-0 courtesy of two goals from FW Ben Ortiz.
The U-17s continued play in Frisco on Thursday March 29 where it fell 4-3 in penalties to the Chicago Fire before topping Japanese side Matsumoto Yamaga 2-1 last Saturday.
Herriman based RSL sides now look to a trip to San Diego to face San Diego Surf on April 7 and Nomads SC on April 8. The U-17s will open the matches on both days at 10:00 a.m. and noon respectively, followed by the older group at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. respectively.
