The Real Salt Lake Academy U-15 squad began the Augsburg Whitsun Tournament with a 0-0 draw against tournament hosts, FC Augsburg, earning a point with three games remaining in the group stage.Â
Due to the structure of the tournament, RSL only had 17 minutes, each half, to impose its will. From the first whistle the Claret-and-Cobalt made quick work on the offensive, putting up several shots in the first few minutes, including a rocket from Omar Marquez. However, Augsburg’s keeper was able to corral the opportunities, keeping RSL out of the net.Â
Near the end of the first half it seemed as if RSL may have finally netted the opening goal when Marquez found himself with the ball at his feet, one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but his shot skipped just wide of the right post.Â
The second half saw Augsburg grow more into the game, pressuring the Academy’s backline. But goalkeeper Will Mackay made several crucial saves to keep the game scoreless. Linkon Ream had himself a chance at goal near the end of the match when he sprinted past his defender, brushing through several Augsburg jerseys for a shot at goal, but his chance bounced wide left.Â
Real Salt Lake Academy will continue the tournament against BSC Young Boys on Saturday, August 20 at 2:00 a.m.MT.
