HERRIMAN, Utah (Wednesday, July 27, 2022) – Real Salt Lake Academy defender Gershon Henry has been selected to represent the Claret-and-Cobalt at the first-ever MLS NEXT All-Star Game on Wednesday, August 10 at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minn.
Henry is one of 45 MLS NEXT athletes named to an MLS NEXT All-Star roster, and will suit up for the West in the East vs. West match. The 45 players were chosen by the MLS NEXT Player Selection Committee, which is made up of key MLS Player Development department personnel, following the conclusion of the MLS NEXT Cup Playoffs and Showcase. Players must have been U-18 (born in 2004 or earlier) and have competed in one of the MLS NEXT national showcase events this season, including MLS NEXT Fest, MLS NEXT Flex, Generation adidas Cup, and MLS NEXT Cup Playoffs and Showcase.
The West will be lead by MLS Great Jeremy Hall, who played 127 games for five MLS teams during his playing career and is currently an assistant coach for MNUFC2 of MLS NEXT Pro. Joining Hall is assistant coach Antonio Medina, who coached the U-19 San Francisco Glens to a runner-up finish at the 2021-22 MLS NEXT Cup Playoffs.
As part of RSL Academy’s U-17 squad, Henry played nearly every game this season as one of the team’s center backs, competing with them in all four major tournaments. Additionally, Henry made his professional debut as a starter for Real Monarchs in MLS NEXT Pro on April 24, 2022 against Portland Timbers II.
On the international stage Henry has competed with both the U-15 and U-17 levels of the United States Youth National team, most recently traveling to Buenos Aires for friendlies against Argentina and Uruguay.
Following the MLS NEXT All-Star Game Henry will return to Herriman, Utah where he will rejoin the RSL Academy as they prepare for their upcoming season.
