The Real Salt Lake Academy U-15 continued group play of the Augsburg Whitsun Tournament, hosted by FC Augsburg with a 1-0 loss to Puskás Akadémia.
In its second match of the group stage, RSL came out pressing, quickly setting up Karlos Flores for an early opportunity, but his shot was blocked out for a corner kick. As the half progressed Puskás gained momentum, forcing Will Mackay to make several saves to keep the score line 0-0 heading into the halftime break.
Moments into the second half Puskás took the lead, Mackay’s diving effort got a hand to the ball, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the ball from bouncing into the back of the net. In the 24th minute Puskás nearly doubled their lead when a forward broke away towards goal, but a quick reaction save from Mackay kept RSL within one.
RSL had a chance at the equalizer late in the second half when Lorenzo Tuch won a free kick at the edge of the 18-yard-box, but Luis Rivera’s ensuing shot was blocked. The team continued to push forward, but were unsucessful in finding the back of the net, ending the match 1-0 in favor of Puskás.
Real Salt Lake Academy have two games remaining in the group stage of the tournament, first against Juventus FC at 8:00 a.m. MT and then Young Boys at 10:00 a.m. MT.
