The Real Salt Lake Academy U-15 squad continues its MLS NEXT Cup title defense against Philadelphia Union on Sunday, June 26 at 4:00 p.m. MT for the Round of 16 in Frisco, Texas.
The Claret-and-Cobalt punched their ticket to the Round of 16 after a 3-1 victory over the historic BW Gottschee Academy. Forward Axel Uriostegui netted a goal in stoppage time of the first half and Zavier Gozo secured a second-half brace to solidify the win.
Meanwhile, Philadelphia Union defeated New York Soccer Club 1-0 to punch their ticket to the next round.
The match between the two sides is set to be a rematch of the 2021 MLS NEXT Cup final in which RSL, “the underdogs,” defeated Philadelphia 2-0 to take home the trophy. However, this is the second time the two have met since then, having previously faced one another in the MLS NEXT Fest. Once again, Real Salt Lake took the victory, this time with a 3-0 scoreline behind an own goal and goals from Uriostegui and Armani Haro.
Philadelphia finished the 2022 regular season with 29 points in 15 matches, good for second in the East Division.
Sunday’s match will not be streamed, but fans can find updates on the match on all RSL Academy social channels.
