HERRIMAN, Utah (Tuesday, December 6, 2022) – Real Salt Lake Academy defender Juan Gio Villa has been named by Head Coach Cristian Flores to the U-15 Mexico National Team for an upcoming training camp.
Villa is the only product from a Major League Soccer club affiliate on the 20-man roster, and only the second based in the United States joining Cade Cowell from Sacramento Republic.
This is the third call up to the U-15 Mexico National Team for Villa, having most recently trained with El Tri in August of 2022. As a dual national, Villa has also received call-ups to the U-15 United States Youth National Team.
Villa recently joined the RSL Academy as a transfer from Chicago Fire and since joining the Claret-and-Cobalt he has scored one goal and added two assists. The defender has helped lead the U-15 squad to a 10-1-1 record, going undefeated in their last 10 matches.
The U-15 Real Salt Lake Academy team is currently taking part in the MLS NEXT Fest, the final match for which will be played on Wednesday, December 6th against Atlanta United. The tournament, featuring 300 teams from the United States and Canada, serves as qualification for the upcoming Generation Adidas Cup.
