The RSL Academy closed out the MLS Generation Adidas Cup Spring Regional Qualifying Tournament on Monday in matches against D.C. United. The U-15 side fell to its United counterpart, falling just short of qualifying for the GA Cup Final Tournament to be held in April in Dallas, Texas. Meanwhile, the U-17s rounded out the competition with a victory over the D.C. United U-17s to book a spot in the Final Tournament in Dallas.
RSL Academy U-17 (2) vs D.C. United U-17 (1)
The RSL Academy U-17s secured a spot in the GA Cup Final Tournament with 2-1 win over D.C. United to close out the U-17 competition of the Spring Regional Qualifying Tournament. RSL Started off in strong possession, taking a chance within the first minute from a tight angle within the penalty area. The early and heavy pressure benefited RSL as it found a goal in the 11th minute after Kevin Mearse took a shot towards goal that was saved but deflected in the path of Christian Nydegger to clean up.
RSL kept its attacking momentum going forward with creative passing and ball movement that resulted in a low cross to find Abel Mendoza who converted the second RSL goal in the 36th minute. D.C. United began to swing momentum in its favor, but the pact RSL defense kept United with few shots on target. United’s Xavier O’Niell was able to pull one back late, however it wasn’t enough to stop the RSL Academy U-17s from picking up the three points.

RSL Academy U-15 (1) vs D.C United U-15 (5)
The RSL Academy U-15 dropped a 5-1 result to D.C. United after picking up an early goal but allowed five unanswered on the day. With the result, the U-15 side failed to qualify for the GA Cup Final Tournament in April, however will still attend the event to compete in a lower bracket tournament.
Real Salt Lake started the game strong, making a quick early save in the 6th minute to kick off an attack that led to RSL’s Julio Marin to take a quick shot to the far corner for the opening goal. RSL continued its momentum with quick and creative passing to provide an attacking threat towards the United goal, but fell short on finding the back of the net to add to the lead. As momentum began to swing out of the Utah’s side favor, D.C. United took control to secure a commanding lead.
Before the half, United placed two in goal through Sebastian Richardson and Adrian Buri to set the team up for the second half. United came out of the gates quickly adding a third goal from Arvid Lindquist, controlling the pace and the tempo of the game. While RSL’s Kei Havelange made few attempts towards goal, United had the answers, adding two more to their scoring through Angel Vargas-Hernandez and Isaiah Chisolm to secure the commanding 5-1 win.
