HERRIMAN, Utah (Sunday, June 11, 2023) – Real Salt Lake winger Jefferson Savarino has been selected by Head Coach Fernando Batista to represent Venezuela in their upcoming matches against Honduras and Guatemala.
This season, Savarino leads Real Salt Lake with four goals and four assists in 13 MLS matches, contributing to nearly half of the team’s goals thus far. Savarino has also scored in each of his last two Open Cup contests for the Club, providing game-winners at Colorado and against LA Galaxy to help RSL advance to the late August Semifinal in Houston.
In April, Savarino became the second RSL player to reach the 30 goals and 30 assists threshold, joining former forward Joao Plata. All together, Savarino has recorded 32 goals and 32 assists in 115 matches.
Throughout his career, Savarino has made 29 appearances for his home country, during which he has found the back of the net twice. Savarino most recently scored for Venezuela on September 27, 2022 against the United Arab Emirates.
Venezuela is set to face Honduras on Thursday, June 15 at 6:00 p.m. MT at Audi Field in Washington, D.C., and Guatemala on Sunday, June 18 at 3:00 p.m. MT at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif. As a result, Savarino will be unavailable for Real Salt Lake’s upcoming road matches at D.C. United on Sat., June 17 and at St. Louis CITY FC on Wed., June 21.
