Real Salt Lake Trades Luis Gil to Houston Dynamo for 2018

Luis Gil 2015

SANDY, Utah (Tuesday, April 24, 2018) – Real Salt Lake announced on Tuesday that the club has acquired a fourth round pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft along with future additional considerations from the Houston Dynamo in exchange for the Right of First Refusal to MF Luis Gil in 2018.

Gil, 24, broke into MLS in 2010 with RSL at just 16 years old.  He had 11 goals and nine assists in 134 career appearances before departing for Mexico’s Queretaro following the 2015 season.  RSL retained his MLS rights when it made an offer for the six-year MLS veteran prior to his move to Mexico.  In 2017, he played for both Orlando City SC and the Colorado Rapids after Orlando acquired his Right of First Refusal for the 2017 season.  For Orlando and Colorado, he totaled 21 appearances, making nine starts on the season.

The SuperDraft pick will be Houston’s natural selection in the fourth round of the 2019 MLS SuperDraft.  If Gil is not retained by the Dynamo in the 2019 season, RSL will regain his Right of First Refusal.
