Real Salt Lake Hosts Minnesota

HERRIMAN, Utah (Tuesday, August 30, 2022)Real Salt Lake (10-8-9, 39 pts, 5th West) returns to action Wednesday with a critical 7:30 p.m. MT kickoff in Sandy against Minnesota United FC (13-9-5, 44 pts, 3rd West) amidst a very crowded West table in the race for the MLS Cup Playoffs. Nine teams occupy 3rd – 11th places in Major League Soccer’s Western Conference, separated by just 12 points, with anywhere from six-to-eight games remaining, many of which against each other. RSL returns home on the heels of Saturday’s 1-1 comeback draw at FC Dallas, as substitute FW Anderson Julio’s 69th-minute goal rescued a valuable point and extended RSL’s unbeaten streak in the DFW Metroplex to five games, as last year’s Justin Meram-inspired 2-1 comeback win at Toyota Stadium catapulted the Claret-and-Cobalt Club’s Cinderella run to the Western Conference Final.

Wednesday’s match will be broadcast locally via KMYU (12 over the air, 22 satellite and 643 HD on cable), with streaming on the KSL Sports App, as well as ESPN700 AM radio. Spanish-speaking fans can tune in on KBMG Latino 106.3 FM, La Gran D 102.3 FM and KTUB 1600 AM for the local radio broadcast.

Wednesday at home marks the second of three RSL games this week, as the Utah side returns from Dallas to State Street on Wednesday for that evening’s “Kick Childhood Cancer” night in what could be RSL’s Club-record 14th consecutive sellout; purchase at www.RSL.com/tickets. RSL returns home Wednesday to its Sandy fortress looking to snap a three-game home winless skid, before heading to Supporters Shield leaders LAFC on Sunday, Sept. 4 at Banc of California Stadium.

Saturday in Dallas, recently-arrived DF Bryan Oviedo – slated to start for Costa Rica in this winter’s upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar – came off the bench late to become the 10th player to make his RSL debut this season, and the 29th player to earn MLS minutes in 2022. Another substitute, MF Scott Caldwell, played the majority of the second half, earning his all-time 250th MLS appearance. Under Head Coach Pablo Mastroeni’s leadership, RSL is now 11-4-5 (W-L-T) on Utah soil against MLS opponents following the July 30 / August 6 losses to FC Dallas and LAFC prior to a 1-1 draw 10 days ago against Vancouver.
