Real Salt Lake Hosts 2021 Expansion Side Austin FC

HERRIMAN, Utah (Friday, August 13, 2021) – Real Salt Lake is set to welcome Austin FC to Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday, August 14 at 8:00 p.m. MT, for the first time since Austin FC became the latest expansion team prior to the start of the 2021 Major League Soccer season.

The match will be broadcast live on KMYU and can be accessed locally via live stream on the KSL TV app. ESPN700 will carry the English radio broadcast and Spanish-speaking fans can tune in on KBMG Latino 106.3, La Gran D 102.3 and KTUB 1600.

Real Salt Lake will also be welcoming members of the Asian American Pacific Islander community for its first-annual AAPI night. A portion of every ticket purchased will go to the Manuia Group to help minority students achieve their higher education goals. Limited tickets are available at RSL.com.

Welcome to the League

Since joining the league in 2005, Real Salt Lake has earned a 6-6-3 record against expansion teams. This season the team played to a 0-0 draw with Nashville SC, who joined the league in 2020. Prior to that, RSL defeated FC Cincinnati 3-0 in 2019, its first season in the league.

We’ll Miss You

After receiving his fifth yellow card against Portland Timbers this past Saturday, defender Justen Glad has been issued a one-game suspension. As a result, Glad will miss the upcoming match against Austin FC. Additionally, Aaron Herrera, Damir Kreilach, Everton Luiz, Justin Meram and Pablo Ruiz are all sitting on four yellow cards, an additional card will result in their subsequent suspension in the following game.

Connections: This Saturday, midfielder Nick Besler will take the pitch against his older brother Matt Besler defender for Austin FC. The brothers played against each other on several occasions, as the older Besler previously spent 11 years with Sporting Kansas City. When playing against each other, Nick holds the upper hand, with a 3-2-1 regular-season record over his older brother.
