HERRIMAN, Utah (Sunday, June 11, 2023) – Real Salt Lake forward Rubio Rubin has been selected to represent the Guatemala National Team for their upcoming match against Venezuela in preparation for their Gold Cup run later this month.
Rubin has been clinical in RSL’s last few matches, directly involved in each of the team’s last five goals, recording two goals and two assists, while also earning the penalty kick against LA Galaxy in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinal. In three seasons as a member of the Claret-and-Cobalt Rubin has scored 11 goals and provided six assists in 70 games.
Since applying for a one-time switch to represent Guatemala in the summer of 2022 he has scored three goals in eight games for Los Chapines.
Guatemala and Rubin are set to play fellow RSL teammate Jefferson Savarino and Venezuela on Sunday, June 18 at 3:00 p.m. MT at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif. As a result, Rubin will be unavailable for Real Salt Lake’s upcoming road matches at D.C. United on Sat., June 17 and at St. Louis CITY FC on Wed., June 21.
