HERRIMAN, Utah (Sunday, June 11, 2023) – Real Salt Lake forward Anderson Julio has earned his first ever selection to the Ecuador National Team for upcoming friendly matches against Bolivia and Costa Rica on June 17 and 20, respectively.
Julio, 27, is one of five MLS players to be selected by Head Coach Félix Sánchez Bas for the “La Tri” national team roster. Now in his third season with Real Salt Lake, Julio has scored one goal in 13 matches this year, with 12 goals in 63 all-time appearances. Anderson also provided the critical assist on Jefferson Savarino’s goal against Colorado Rapids back on May 24 to secure the team’s berth in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinals. Since joining RSL in 2021, Julio has recorded 13 goals and 3 assists in 67 matches across all competitions.
With his selection, Julio becomes the second-ever RSL player to be chosen to represent Ecuador, joining former forward Joao Plata, who scored two goals in five matches for Ecuador.
Ecuador is set to face Bolivia this Saturday, June 17 at 5:00 p.m. MT at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey, and Costa Rica on Tuesday, June 20 at 6:00 p.m. MT at Subaru Park in Chester, Penn. As a result, Julio will be unavailable for Real Salt Lake’s upcoming road matches at D.C. United and St. Louis City FC.
