Real Monarchs SLC Faces El Paso Locomotive FC Saturday in Texas

HERRIMAN, Utah (Friday, July 19, 2019) â€“ Real Monarchs SLC (8-6-3, 27 points, 7 West) is set for its first visit to Southwest University Park to face El Paso Locomotive FC on Saturday, July 20. The contest in El Paso is scheduled for an evening kick-off of 7:30 p.m. MT.


Last weekend, the Monarchs hosted Tacoma Defiance in a match that extended the Monarchs win-streak to five in a 5-0 blowout over the side from Washington. FW Douglas Martinez tallied the club’s first-ever hattrick while MF Maikel Chang added to his goal-scoring account for 2019 and MF Jack Blake made his triumphant return to the field after a lengthy injury, scoring the fifth and final goal on the night. GKAndrew Putna made three saves in the match to tally the fourth Monarchs clean sheet of 2019.
Real Monarchs SLC faces El Paso Locomotive FC since its home opener at Zions Bank Stadium where the sides played to a 0-0 draw in March. The Monarchs fought off an aggressive El Paso attack as GK David Ochoa made 9 resounding saves to earn the first Monarchs clean sheet of the season. The Monarchs seeks to keep its winning form intact against an El Paso team that has hit a rough patch and looking to turn momentum back in its favor.

For 2019, the Monarchs return a familiar core of players from the 2018 season as DFs James MobergKalen RydenKonrad PlewaAndrew Brody & Stanley Okumu lead the backline of one of the league’s most elite sides. MFs Maikel ChangJack BlakeJosh Heard and Masta Kacher all return carrying with them a slew of experience into their second season in the midfield with the Monarchs.
New faces in the squad include players with ample USL Championship experience like DF Noah Powder, FW Douglas Martinez. Panamanian international MF Ricardo Avila highlights the season’s newcomers as the World Cup veteran is joined by FW Lionel Etoundi, MF Damian German and Honduran youth international FW Luis Palma. RSL Academy products Jordan Pena and Steve Jasso also exemplify the growth pipeline between the Academy and the professional ranks for the 2019 season. GKs Todd Morton and Evan Finney round out the list of new faces set to contribute to the Monarchs during the 2019 season.
