HERRIMAN, Utah (Tuesday, January 22, 2019) – Real Monarchs SLC has signed MF Damian German ahead of the 2019 USL Championship season, General Manager Dan Egner announced today. German’s signing is pending league and federation approval.
“We’re excited to welcome Damian back to the RSL family,” Egner said. “He had a very productive and impressive college career at Grand Canyon and San Diego State, and we jumped at the opportunity to sign him. He gives us another attacking option on the wings as well as up top centrally, and based on what he has shown throughout his college career, we expect Damian to contribute to the Monarchs from day one.”
German, 22, arrived to the RSL Academy (AZ) in 2013, helping RSL to the U-15/16 National Championship the same year. As a senior at the RSL Academy, the Phoenix, Arizona native scored 31 goals in 40 matches, topping the charts as the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s leading scorer. German then went on to feature for Grand Canyon University for three seasons, totaling 11 goals in 53 appearances for GCU. Transferring to San Diego State University prior to the 2018 season, German notched five goals in 18 appearances for the Aztecs in 1,355 minutes played.
“I’m honored and excited to receive this opportunity with the Monarchs,” German said. “This club means a lot to me. It made me the player and person that I am today. I’m excited to be able to play for the jersey once again.”
