Real Monarchs 0-1 San Antonio FC
Zions Bank Stadium; Herriman, Utah
Saturday, September 11, 2021
Head Coach Jamison Olave
On the result:
“Tonight was the kind of loss that’s a little painful. The team worked hard and played really well. We created chances and we deserved more from this game. Maybe they deserved to win because they created a lot of chances too, but it was a really open game. I will say that the guys really deserved a point. I’m pretty happy with what I saw today from the team. Good players, good fight, good moments. They played well from the back. We played a team that was fighting for the playoffs and we know the quality that they have. The guys should feel proud of what they did tonight on the field.”
On Jeff Dewsnup:
“He has one or two good saves every game and today he had two clear saves, this kid is getting better. The confidence that he has is getting bigger, he doesn't look like a young keeper, he has a lot of confidence, good feet and is very vocal. This kid has a high ceiling. We are very happy with him and he has done a great job. With how well he has done for the Monarchs, hopefully next year or in the next couple of years he can have a couple of games with the first team. That will be great for him and great for the organization.”
On being back home for first time since August 4:
“Playing at home is always a good feeling. We didn't get a result, but I think the people that were here enjoyed the game. I don’t remember the last time that we saw that many people at the stadium. Hopefully they keep coming and next time we can give them a better result, but we are happy to be back home.”
Defender Bret Halsey
On the result:
“Tough result. We’ve been grinding the past few games. I think we have a lot of talent in this group and that we did well grinding it out. We didn’t have a lot of quality in the first half, but we kept pushing forward. It was unfortunate not to get a goal. We’re just going to keep going and hope for a little bit better the next game.”
On settling into an outside back role:
“It’s kind of tough, I’ve been playing a lot of different positions. Moving back and forth isn’t the easiest. But I like the space that right back affords me. I like being able to get forward and take people on and I feel like that’s what I do best. I needed the last game to settle in again and get back to my right back ways. But I’m there again and looking forward to the next game.”
On playing on the road near home on the east coast:
“Getting back on the road isn’t easy. We’ve had so many road games lately. It feels like it’s just game after game after game. But I’m excited to be going back to the East Coast. Maybe my family can come out. I’m not sure, but that would be cool.”
Goalkeeper Jeff Dewsnup
On recording four saves:
“Sometimes you are in the right spot at the right time, that’s how it was on a few of them. I was just doing my best to try and keep the team in the game. We came up short today, but it was a great effort by everyone and an overall great performance.”
On the result:
“We had our chances, we almost scored a number of times. Sometimes that’s just soccer, there’s an unlucky goal and you lose by that one goal. I think there is a lot to build off from this game. We are in a good spot, I think we just need to keep moving forward. We’re good.”
On training with the first team:
“It gave me a ton of confidence. It was good to train with them and get experience with the team. Travelling with them and sitting on the bench gave me a lot of confidence. I was able to learn a lot while I was up there.”
