SANDY, Utah – Real Salt Lake hits the road this weekend, travelling north of the border to take on Vancouver Whitecaps FC at BC Place on Saturday. The RSL-Vancouver contest will kick at 5:00 p.m. MT and will be broadcast live on CW30, 100.7 FM and 102.3 La Gran D FM.
Real Salt Lake enters Saturday’s contest coming off a 5-1 trouncing of Western Conference rival Colorado Rapids last Friday in front of a sold-out Rio Tinto Stadium. The Claret-and-Cobalt went down 1-0 in the 21st minute after Colorado MF Jose Mari scored a long-range rocket from 30 yards out. Real Salt Lake came back with a vengeance, scoring five unanswered goals in the 32nd, 33rd, 37th, 45th and 63rd minutes, to down Colorado 5-1 and sweep the Rocky Mountain Cup opponent for the first time. Real Salt Lake is now third in the league and Western Conference with a 13-6-10 record and total of 49 points. Seattle Sounders FC and LA Galaxy both sit above RSL with 54 points each.
Real Salt Lake will be able to clinch a playoff berth with a win or draw on Saturday in Vancouver. If the Claret-and-Cobalt accomplish the feat, it will have qualified for the MLS playoffs for the seventh consecutive season – the longest active streak in MLS.
This weekend’s contest will be the third and final regular season meeting between the two sides, with RSL going 0-0-2 against the ‘Caps in 2014. In the first encounter this year, the Claret-and-Cobalt played Vancouver to a wild 2-2 draw at Rio Tinto Stadium on April 26, with goals from RSL FWs Joao Plata and Alvaro Saborio. The two clubs met again in Utah on July 19, with Plata notching the equalizer in the 81st minute to draw 1-1.

RSL has had mixed results at BC Place, posting a 1-2-1 record in Vancouver. RSL recorded its first win at BC Place last year, a 1-0 victory on Sept. 28, 2013.
Vancouver enters this weekend’s match coming off a disappointing 3-0 loss at Portland Timbers. The ‘Caps will be desperate for three points on Saturday as they fight for a playoff spot with just five games remaining in the season. Vancouver currently occupies sixth-place in the Western Conference with an 8-8-13 record and total of 37 points.
